Decisions, Decisions...
By: SFC Brian Goode
Drug Demand Reduction
Sgt. First Class Brian Goode recently spent some time at Riverdale Elementary School with a group of eighth graders that are getting ready to make the big move to high school. His presentation will hopefully help their transition to high school a little easier. There was a lot of class discussion and activities that got students to think ‘outside the box’. Sgt. First Class Goode used activities from the Mobile Team Challenge program. to enhance their problem solving skills. These activities and many more are a part of the Mobile Team Challenge ‘Low Ropes Kit’. The kit includes equipment that can be arranged in different ways to create activities that challenge both students and adults alike. Together the students learn the importance of teamwork, respect and finding alternative ways to deal with challenges they face. This is an exciting addition to classroom instruction. Students today face many challenges and this is one of the great tools that the Counterdrug Task Force is using to equip them for what they will be facing both in their years of schooling and well beyond. Sgt. First Class Goode hopes he has helped to make the transition a little smoother and changed the way these students think about the choices they make.
The Drug Demand Reduction Team uses alternate activities such as the Mobile Team Challenge (low ropes course) as an active way to bring education to the students in a fun and exciting way while still relaying important information.
