How can I use this equipment in my program?
MTC portable ropes courses provide experiential contexts for teaching emotional intelligence competencies, leadership skills, cooperation, decision making skills and creativity in a variety of settings. Participants are presented with problems and challenges that can be solved only through the shared insight, experience, creativity and resourcefulness of their group. Take a look at how our equipment is being used in YOUTH & COMMUNITY SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS, CORPORATIONS & GOVERNMENT AGENCIES and at SCHOOLS, COLLEGES & UNIVERSITIES. Better yet, CONTACT US and let one of our Account Executives assist in determining specifically how our equipment can best serve your organization. Back to top

What is the liability and what kind of insurance coverage do I need?
As with any equipment, when you purchase a MTC course you are responsible for the safe use and storage of it. It is vital that you read all MTC materials thoroughly, receive proper training in the safe use of the equipment and follow the recommended safety guidelines. Typically, MTC equipment is included in the umbrella liability coverage for your organization under the heading of gym or physical education equipment or as "other frequently used training objects". Check your existing policy to determine if this is the case.
If you are applying for insurance coverage strictly to cover your MTC equipment, make sure the insurer understands this is not a permanent outdoor course, but rather one that will be stored and locked when not in use. This limits the unsupervised use of your equipment. Also, inform the insurer that with the exception of a couple of events, people remain on the ground or no more than 1 1/2 - 3 inches off the ground and that all safety standards have been reviewed by qualified risk appraisal experts in the field of adventure-based learning. Is there certification for trained facilitators?
MTC provides a certificate of completion for participants who successfully complete facilitator training. In the arena of experiential education, the debate regarding certification of facilitators is on-going and, at this time, we are not aware of any official certifying agency in the field. The reason is simple: "hard" skills (setting up events, safety procedures, tying knots, etc.) can easily be certified but the REAL skill and value in low ropes is in the facilitation, and this is an art. Visit our TRAINING page to learn more about MTC facilitator training. Back to top
How much does it cost?
The cost of MTC equipment may vary depending on the specific course you are interested in, the type of training you desire, the number of trainees you anticipate and the cost of shipping. Non- profit organizations do receive a discount. In addition, the MTC Grant Fund can be applied for if you are a non-profit organization that works with youth. When the funding is available it helps to offset some of the costs for the organization. As a result, we prefer to quote pricing options that apply specifically to your situation. Once you have an idea of the course you are interested in, send us a REQUEST FOR PRICING form and we will respond before the end of our next business day. Back to top
Is training required or can I purchase the equipment without it?
The MTC Appreciative Facilitation and Collaboration training programs are a vital part of the MTC system and is strongly recommended, however, equipment can be purchased separately. Back to top
Why is it called a "ropes course"?
Ropes courses were first developed by Lawrence Holt of the Blue Star Shipping Company out of Great Britain during World War II. These courses provided a quick and thorough means of imparting to both novice sailors and seasoned seamen the survival skills typically gained through years of experience. The original equipment utilized in the training incorporated the retired ropes and rigging of ocean-going vessels and thus came to be called a "ropes course". Back to top
