OUR STORY & COMMITMENT

Cheri Torres and Carolyn Rainey Weisenberger created MTC Associates, LLC in 1995. As experienced outdoor training professionals and educators, they recognized the need for a safe, easy-to-use professional training and development system that, when used effectively, could bring about dramatic change. During the following year they designed, and later patented, the MTC portable ropes course system.

In 1996, Cheri and Carolyn co-authored the MTC Low Ropes Course Facilitators Manual and launched MTC training and consulting services. As demand for MTC equipment and training grew, so did the need for increasingly sophisticated approaches to training and facilitation. In response, they integrated Appreciative Inquiry into MTC facilitator training in 1999 making it the first Appreciative Facilitator training program in the country. 2002 brought expansion into the European market culminating in the formation of MTC, Ltd, located in the United Kingdom.

Since its inception, the Mobile Team Challenge system has been developed, refined and expanded so that it now encompasses a wide range of elements that, together, create a unique training system unrivalled for stimulating long-term positive change in behavior and attitudes. It is now used by hundreds of organizations, including; Novant Health, FedEx, Siemens, General Motors, the US Armed Forces, the Royal Air Force and Save the Children as well as numerous schools, colleges, universities, community organizations, YMCA's, justice programs, non-profit agencies and other organizations. The MTC system constitutes a proven and powerful way to effect change safely, quickly and enjoyably with individuals from 8 to 80 years of age, in any location and in any climate. It is our mission to facilitate positive and lasting differences for individuals and organizations around the world and we invite you to join us!

Our Commitment To You

  • PRODUCE INNOVATIVE STATE-OF-THE-ART PRODUCTS
  • PRESENT HIGH-IMPACT TRAINING
  • PROVIDE CUSTOMER SERVICE THAT SAYS "YOUR SUCCESS IS OUR PURPOSE"
  • OFFER ACTIVITIES AND PRODUCTS WITH TRUE EDUCATIONAL SUBSTANCE
  • MAINTAIN AN IMPECCABLE SAFETY RECORD
  • WALK OUR TALK INTERNALLY AS WELL AS EXTERNALLY.
  • MAKE SOCIALLY AND ENVIRONMENTALLY RESPONSIBLE DECISIONS
  • WORK ALWAYS FOR THE GREATEST GOOD, WITH THE LARGEST NUMBER TOWARD THE HIGHEST GOALS

The MTC logo
The Mobile Team Challenge logo consists of a Canada Goose superimposed over a triangle.
  • The triangle signifies the power and strength created when the MTC System unites three critical aspects - the equipment, the training and the people.
  • The Canada Goose represents one of the best models of teamwork that exists and provides a vivid metaphor for the power and benefits offered by the MTC system.

Next Autumn, when you see geese heading south for the winter, consider what science has discovered as to why they fly in a V formation:

  • As each bird flaps its wings, it creates uplift for the bird immediately following. By flying in a V formation the whole flock adds at least 71% greater flying range than if each bird flew on its own.
  • When the lead goose tires, it rotates back in the wing and another goose flies to the point.
  • Geese honk from behind to encourage those up front to keep up their speed.
  • When a sick or wounded goose falls out of formation, two others follow it down to lend help and protection. They stay with the fallen goose until it is able to fly or until they determine it will not heal in time to make the journey. Only then do they launch out on their own or with another formation to catch up with the flock. They will return back next season to the exact same spot so that a surviving goose may rejoin the flock.

MTC equipment has been specifically designed to facilitate the development of the lessons taught by the Canada Goose:

  • Share leadership
  • Encourage one another
  • Communicate constantly
  • Share a common goal
  • Maintain community
  • Travel on the strength of one another
  • Accept and give help when needed
  • Stand by one another in difficult times
  • Follow a plan and a leader

She oversees the maintenance of our inventory, the assembly of our equipment, packaging of courses and sees that it all goes where it’s supposed to go and gets there when it’s supposed to arrive. She was born in Sweden not too long ago and once upon a time came here for a short visit with a dear friend. She met an American guy and the visit turned into a marriage and a move. Karin feels at home in the MTC workshop and thoroughly enjoys putting courses together, as well as getting them out to our clients. When Karin joined the company in 2000, we were in a one-room office, which we quickly outgrew. Looking back, she feels gratitude towards Cheri and Rainey for giving her this great opportunity, and she hopes to help bring MTC to the world. Contact Karin at karin@mobileteamchallenge.com.
